Q: What is the best way to contact us?

A: Direct Message us on Instagram: @bearington.cats OR Email Us: bearington.cats@gmail.com

Q:  Which coat colors do you breed?

A:  All of our kittens will have silver or golden coat color in these variations such as Black Silver, Black Golden, Blue Golden, and Lilac Golden.  Most of our kittens will have green eyes, but we may also have colorpoint kittens with blue eyes.  A kitten's eye color will continue to change slightly in shade and depth throughout their first year of life.  For coat patterns, we may have varieties such as ticked, spotted, shaded, shell/chinchilla

Q: Why do you love Scottish Fold kittens?

A: Their tightly folded ears combined with large, round inquisitive eyes with their owl like appearance certainly gives them a special charm,  but I believe it's truly this breed's unique, quirky, clown like personality that makes them special.  Check out our instagram (@owlington, @bearington.cats) and you'll immediately understand what I am talking about.  They are super sweet and friendly with everyone, and almost dog like in their demeanors.  Our Owlington loves to take walks at night with me, Noelle loves to snuggle in bed, and Chamonix is always following us from room to room.  I guarantee you will immediately fall in love with them from the first moment you meet.  =)

Q: Why do you love British Shorthair kittens?

A: There are so many reasons. We adore their thick velvety coat, bushy fluffy tail, their sweet, loving and regal personality, their Teddy Bear looks and their loyalty. They tend to also be amongst the least allergenic breeds and are growing in popularity. The stud of all our kittens Pooh Bear was born in our cattery and has the most trusting and relaxed personality we've ever seen in a cat.  He hops into bed with us every night when we go to sleep and sleeps with us all night until we wake up =)  Everyone who meets him falls immediately in love with his easy going personality.  He also has parentage from reputable catteries (Natalyland, Daviway) in Europe with champion bloodlines.

Q: What is the health of British Shorthair and Scottish Folds like?

A: We breed for health. BSH are a healthy breed. They do not have diseases related to the breed.  All of our breeding adults are genetically tested prior to breeding and are negative for PKD - Polycystic Kidney Diseases . When parents are negative, kittens cannot inherit PKD.     We genetically tested our breeding pairs to ensure there is diversity in their gene pools to avoid any health problems that are caused by inbreeding.  Our Scottish Fold breeding cats are also tested genetically to ensure they each only carry one copy of the gene for folded ears, and are bred to straight ear Scottish folds that do not carry the fold gene at all.    This is the correct way and the only way Scottish folds should be bred, it is VERY important that offsprings never receive 2 copies of the fold gene which causes the debilitating disease OCD - Osteochodrodyplasia.  (Please please please do your research and ONLY purchase Scottish folds from reputable breeders, this disease is physically crippling and painful for the cats, but is preventable with responsible breeding.  Please do not purchase Scottish Folds from backyard breeders as it could lead to a life of pain for the kittens and overwhelming vet bills for you as a pawrent).   We vaccinate all our cats with a triple vaccine that protects against feline rhinotracheitis, feline panleukopenia (FPV), and feline calicivirus (FCV).  Kittens are vaccinated starting at the age of about 6-7 weeks until they go home to you and are also dewormed.  We use Comfortis on our adults as a flea prevention.

Q: Do you have a waitlist for kittens?

A: Yes, we require a non-refundable deposit of $500 to join our waitlist for a kitten.  The deposit will be applied to the final adoption fee.  We accept deposits via Zelle or Paypal (friends & family option only).  Our waiting list is first come first serve based on when we receive your deposit.

Q:  At what age can the kittens go to their new home?

A:  Our kittens go home between 12-16 weeks old with age appropriate vaccinations.   This is the optimal age for kittens to go to their new home because by this age, they will have learned all the socialization skills from their mother and siblings.  Kittens who leave their litter too early do not learn all the life skills they need to properly interact with humans, for example young kittens learn to retract their claws when playing, and to not bite from their mother and siblings.  These things cannot by taught by us (humans), so a kitten that leaves its litter too early will be less sociable.

Q: How do I RESERVE a kitten that is available on the website?
A: New litters are announced on our KITTEN NURSERY page and also via instagram.  Our waitlist families who have put down a deposit have priority to choose and reserve from the new kittens when they are 3-5 weeks old. After that, any kittens not reserved will be available to all.

We accept Zelle or Paypal (friends & family option only) for the $500 deposit.  Please note kittens are reserved on a first come, first serve basis in the order of receiving your deposit.

Once reserved, it is your kitten now! (congratulations) so the deposit is non-refundable and generally not transferable to another kitten (some exceptions apply).  The deposit will apply toward the kitten adoption fee.

You will receive weekly updates on your reserved kitten while we wait for him/her to finish nursing and learning all necessary life skills from his mommy, get all his/her vaccinations & microchip.  Kittens will go home to you at 12-16 weeks.

Q: What is the adoption fee of your kittens?

A: Our adoption fee is determined by the breed & quality of the kitten, how much they meet the breed requirement, and other factors.  Adoption fees of our kittens may change and are entirely our discretion. The look, shape, quality of their coat or eye color and personality and disposition all influences their price. Our adoption fee starts at $2,000.   This price includes all of core age appropriate kitten vaccinations (FVRCP, rabies if older than 16wks at time of pickup), deworming, microchipping.  When our kittens go home with you around 12-16 wks old, they are fully socialized, litterbox trained, eating solid food and have completed all of their core age appropriate vaccinations.  Please be aware, other breeders may sell their kittens at a younger age at a lower price, however, we believe it is important for kittens to stay with their mom until 12-16 weeks to gain full immunity and learn proper socialization skills.  Lastly, because we believe in 2 kittens being adopted together, we do give preference and substantial discounts to families who adopt two kittens.

Q: Why do you recommend adopting two kittens?

A: Getting two kittens at the same time is best for both your family and the kittens. Kittens growing up together are typically best of friends.  It brings a lot of fun and joy just watching them play and groom each other.  The travel and transition will be much smoother when a kitten has a buddy with him/her.  All the crying (and meowing) of the first days will be eliminated, and stress from new environment will be cut in half.   Two kittens will keep each other company when you are not home, you will feel so much more at ease when you're on vacation knowing they have each other.   We offer discounts on the second kitten for these reasons.

Q: What if you do not have a kitten I want at this time?
A: I encourage you to get in contact with us through email, to let me know what kind of kitten you are interested in and to start communication. Let me know more about you and the potential home our kitten would be going into.  We can add you to our waiting list or email list to stay in touch

Q:  Are you able to ship your kittens?
A:  We prefer and recommend to all adoptive families to pick up their kitten in person.   We are available to meet you at the Los Angeles International Airport if you're traveling from out of town.  Depending on our schedule, we may also be able to personally deliver your kitten to your local airport , for an additional fee of $300-500, please inquire with us if this might be needed.  We can also recommend a flight nanny service (your kitten will fly with a nanny in the cabin, you will meet the nanny at your local airport to pick up).   For the safety of our kittens and the least amount of stress to them, we will not allow our kittens in to be shipped in cargo under any circumstances.

Q: What if I live close to San Diego/ Los Angeles area and do not need shipping?
A: If you live within driving distance to Los Angeles,  we welcome you to come pick up your kitten, after they have been weaned, vaccinated, and prepared for a new home.

Q: Can I come see a kitten?

A:  Unfortunately, we do not allow visitors to come to our home to meet the kittens.  We are a hobby cattery and our cats and kittens are our pets and live in our home with us.  We do not have a store front, and we are not a pet store, so we simply don’t feel comfortable allowing strangers into our home.   However, we are happy to show our kittens to via FaceTime video, Zoom, or Instagram Live video at request.

Q: When is payment for the adoption fee for my kitten due?

A: The non-refundable deposit of $500 via Zelle or Paypal (friends & family option only) is due at the time you reserve a kitten or join our waiting list.  This deposit will be applied towards the final adoption fee.  The final remaining payment is due at pick up, we accept cash, Zelle, or PayPal (friends & family option) for the final payment.   Upon completing the final payment, you will also receive your kitten's health & vaccination records and are agreeing to our kitten contract (below).

Q: How about the kitten's pedigree?
A:  All my breeding cats are pedigree cats with champion bloodlines from top European catteries, they are all registered with TICA.  You can see the parents pedigree and our registration on our website.  Your adoption is bound by our online contract and a one year from birth health guarantee against hereditary diseases.  Most families do not request registration with TICA since this will be their household pet.  However, we can provide TICA registration and documents for an add'l small fee.   Please arrange with us prior to adoption.

Q: When should I get my kitten spayed / neutered?
A: It is recommended that kittens get spayed / neutered prior to 8 months of age.  Per our contract, since all Bearington Cats kittens are sold as pets only, we will also require owners to provide proof of the spay / neuter surgery for their kitten before 8 months of age.  To help share in the cost of the surgery, Bearington Cats will provide up to $100 reimbursement to the owners upon receiving proof of Spay / Neuter (invoice from the vet who did the surgery).

Q: How do I prepare for my kitten?

A: Please head to our 'Blogs & More' section on the website.  We have written a lot more information there on preparing for your kitten's arrival, kitten nutrition, recommended litterbox setups.  If you have add'l questions, please feel free to email us.

The kitten/cat is adopted in good faith and appears to be in an excellent health and age appropriate weight. Adoptive families agree to never declaw the kitten/cat, since such a surgery is a cruelty against the animal. The seller reserves the right to cancel any kitten adoption at any time prior to pick up. It is expected that the purchaser will provide a loving home that cares for all the physical, medical and emotional needs of the kitten/cat.

Under no circumstances will this cat/kitten be sold, leased, given away to any pet shop, research laboratory, animal shelter or similar facility. Should purchaser be unable to keep cat/kitten, the seller is to be notified and a suitable new placement is to be approved by seller. Contract remains in effect with a new placement.

The purchaser has three business days upon receiving the kitten/cat to have a veterinarian exam performed should purchaser so desire. It is recommended the kitten/cat is quarantined from other pets for a minimum of two weeks. Failure to have the kitten/cat examined within the three days relieves the seller of any financial responsibility and renders this contract void.  After that any expenses incurred by the new owner for the veterinarian or the treatment of the kitten/cat shall be the sole responsibility of the new owner. Should medical treatment be necessary within the 3 days period, upon proof, the breeder will be responsible for half of the incurred bill for medication only.
